Fishing Spot
Kyle Rooyakkers At Grand River
Weir Downriver of Freeport Bridge
A short walk from Freeport Bridge in Kitchener is a weir. Immediately after the weir the water isn't terribly deep. to be honest, it's not terribly deep ever. It gets maybe to waist height 100 or so meters away from the weir. The deepest water would be above the weir, since it acts very much like a dam. I have caught fish from the canoe above the weir, and paddlecraft is the best way to access this area. The current is lax and the water shallow enough that one might launch at Freeport, paddle down to the weir and paddle back up. The shoreline is dense with brush. I would advise against bushwacking to the shorline unless you are prepared for the worst of insect onslaughts.
