Ray Hodge At Cheesman Lake
Cheesman Reservoir 7/15
I am loving this lake. Started late after Colorado’s evening storm blew over. 1/15th oz Ned rig fished over large boulders and steep drops offs and stone ledges. Very light bite, mostly as it feel from ledge to ledge or after deadsticking it for 2-3 minutes. Lots of line watching & convincing myself to fish slower. Also saw a decent amount of aggressive, but sporadic top water action — bet someone with more patience could bring a fly rod & some terrestrial/dry flies and clean up on the small mouths. Water definitely still rising; many of the rocks I stood on to fish only a few days ago are now 2-3ft underwater. Bonus: free random deer leg found towards the end of the fishable area. PS: It’s a damned shame the amount of trash that’s being left here. If you make the trip, please practice leave no trace principles, and if you’re willing, stop & grab some of the trash left by the hopelessly trashy.
