Ryan Jones At Delaware River
Today I decided to head to a new place to try and catch some good browns, and it worked. Landed a total of three fish, 14", 16" and 18" wild browns. Started the day off by missing a fish, which could have been the biggest fish of the day. Didn't get a great look, but it seemed like it was 18"+. It was sitting right under the end of a fallen log in a deep cut. I then missed a second good fish, smaller than the first, but still a good size, sitting in a current break behind a massive bolder. Both of these fish took the blue husky jerk, and I missed the hookset on both. It wasnt long after when I landed my first fish, the 14". I kept fishing upstream, and had a couple more browns follow the husky jerk in, but the action slowed for an hour or so. I got to the biggest hole of the day, a 90° bend in the river where the water was pumping and it cut a deep run into the rocks. This is where I used the dep diving crankbait. I thought I saw a tail of a fish just poking out from the overhanging rock, and after a few casts, my suspicion was confirmed with the 16" brown. After no more action, I moved to the next hole, where I put on my mepps agalia. I took a cadt in the run, not expectong much, and as I was about to pull my lure out of the water, the 18" fish came out of nowhere and smashed it in the shallows. I fished a bit more, but called it quits soon after. 5 hours of fishing where I tied my ob brown os a pretty good day. Although these were very nice fish, I know for certain there are some much larger ones lurking in this river. Unfortunately, I will have to wait until my spring break in March to head back, but it was an excellent day on the water.
