Top Fishing Spots To Catch Black crappie
Ryan Jones
Pretty crappy day of fishing yesterday. Got on the water for 6 and stayed out there for 8 hours, and all I have to show for it was 1 little crappie a terrible sunburn. The first 2 hours I could not figure out the bite. I was fishing shallower with a top water, then throwing spinnerbait, a deepdiving, and a lipless crankbait and nothing. I moved a bit deeper 12-15 ft and was marking fish and bait. I put on a dropsjot and it took a while, but I started getting a few small bites, but still nothing. I tied on a finnese swimbait and I missed 2 nice bass bites, then I made the mistake of trying a jerkbait thr same size and color, which got me nothing. Tried the swimbait again and got nothing. At about 10 I decided to move on and try fishing the pads. I didn't have any weedless worm hooks on me, so I tried a spinnerbait along the edges and the frog. Had oke bite on the spinnerbait before switching to the frog, where I had one nice 3lb fish blow up right away. Unfortunately, this fish made me think there were others, and for the next 2 hours, I threw a frog with 0 action. I moved to the north side of the lake, had a swan charge straight at me before stopping 50 yards in front of me and giving me a death stare as we moved around each other. I was very ready to wack it as hard as I could with my paddle, but I'm not sure how effective that would have been. After no action, I moved to the bridge at about 1:15. Even though I marked a ton of fish earlier, I avoided the bridge because i saw 20 people fishing off of it the day before. I did so many drifts under that bridge before I finally landed this dink on a dropshot. And a size 2 hook. I think because the dropshot is barely nose hooked, it was hard for thr crappie to inhale the full 3" bait. There were marks of all different sizes, the crappie school, maybe a bass school, and probably a few carp. Luckily for me my golf game was really good today. I shot 104 on 18 holes. (I usually shoot double par). I think heading back there and targeting deeper bass right away flwould get me some action. I also didnt have any weedless swimbaits or plastics, so I probably would've caught more fish in the pads. I could also head back with my ultra light and get on some more crappie, maybe catching a few slabs. It was a good scouting trip, I tested a lot of different baits out, and learned where the fish are hanging out.
