The sub-40 temps and blue bird sky shut them down early but when the temp hit 50, the bite kicked in. For those who want the details, here you go… I used three techniques. 1. Red flake green pumpkin whacky. I downsized to a 3” senko and threw to the edges of the dying weed beds. Let it flutter to the bottom and work it slow. 2. 3/8oz. Booyah Willow/Colorado spinner bait in white with a red trailer hook. The wind was way up so I let the yak drift and threw to any piece of green cover. Tip: use a 5:3:1 gear ratio on a M or MH rod with moderate action. You will get more solid hookups instead of ripping the hook out on the set. This combo produced the 2 biggest fish of the day. 3. I went to a Yum 5” Sniper Shad in white with a 3/8oz. sonar jig head when I found them stacked on a drop-off. Throw the bait beyond the drop-off and let it fall into the strike zone. 👊 Tight lines! 🎣

A rain-soaked Saturday put my foul weather gear to the test, and it didn’t do so well except for the waterproof Hoka’s which kept my feet bone dry. Unlike my ironically named Ascend “Bone-Dry” rain jacket which failed after a few hours in the steady rain. Still managed to find a few. 👍

No donkeys but here’s the best of the bunch from today’s outing on Bishop where the bass were willing to crush a double-willow blade spinner bait in the bright sun. They would not hit it in open water. Had to cast into the Lilly pads, drag it through and wait for them to smack it. Highly recommend braid for this technique. At sunset they started blowing up the popper, which IMO still ranks up there as one of the all-time best top water baits. Tight lines!

Temps are rising and so are the fish. Looking forward to a great season on the water. Tight lines.

Got out for a quick evening session today. Ran into a few working the drop-offs with a Z-Man Graph Shad. 🍂🍁🎣
