Got out for a few hours this morning and made my first trip down the road to burr oak of the year. I truly have a love/hate relationship with that place so any day I can catch a few fish is a good day. Managed to crack a few dinks in about 4 hours of fishing before the wind really picked up. . . Hit up burr oak this morning and got off to a fast start catching 3 fish within the first hour powershotting grass edges and they were absolutely choking it. Those fish were all dinks so I went looking for a bigger bite. Started to target main lake points in deeper water with the higher water temps and caught another dink. So I decided to pick up the big stick and go up shallow punching isolated lily pad clumps and managed to find a bigger bite. . . The home pond produced for me today! This was the best day I’ve ever had at Burr Oak! . I haven’t fished burr oak much at all this year but thought I’d give it a try today. Going into the day I had a game plan and I executed it to near perfection even with losing 2 more decent fish. The theme of the day was to be different, fish lures that not many people fish at this lake, but still fish in a way that gives me confidence in what I’m doing. I intended on fishing 3 lures and all 3 put fish in the boat. Flipping grass edges with a power shot was the money today. I put several fish in the boat doing exactly that. I also spent time covering water with a jighead minnow (without FFS) and targeting deeper points with a wobble head. . Had to call in the troops (Lil’ Trooper) to save the day. Fish were stubborn at burr oak but I managed to put a few in the boat. . . After fishing some of the max scent stuff from @berkleyfishing I can say that I’m a believer. I can’t tell you how many fish that I have caught on the flat worm and now the lil trooper. I fished a couple of different ned rig lures throughout the day, and many of them were nearly identical size and profile, but the only one that put fish in the boat was the max scent. . .
