Caught my biggest Sucker yet. Didn’t catch it with rod and real just need a reference to show size.

After class today, I biked 12 miles to a nearby river with some newly acquired jigging raps and nightcrawlers. Once again it poured for a good portion of the afternoon, which thankfully didn’t slow down the fishing. I managed to land five gorgeous white suckers and one smallmouth today! The first three fish of the day came on a jigging rap tipped with a nightcrawler, and the rest ate a nightcrawler on a jighead. The biggest sucker came in at 5lbs 2oz, just 6 ounces short of the state record (or 14oz short of my unofficial state record), and the smallmouth weighed in at 3lbs 9oz.

Today I received word from a local that the sucker run had begun in a small stream nearby. However, they were only biting one thing. As soon as my class let out for the day, I hit the road and headed towards the mouth of this mysterious stream, where an impassible barrier blocks fish from swimming upstream, just 60 yards from the lake. Sure enough, the suckers were breaching the surface every few minutes. I tied on a small ice fishing jigging rap, the lucky lure that a local informed me of, and immediately hooked into a gorgeous sucker who slurped it up off the bottom behind a rock. In the ten minutes that followed I managed to hook about five more, until losing my only jigging rap. I quickly found out that this, was in fact, the only thing they were biting. Despite the torrential downpours all afternoon, it was still a good day of fishing.

Caught my first carp today.

I suckered these guys into going for trout flies. One took a stone fly and the other took a steelhead magnet. Time on the river is always good 👍

My favourite time of year. 2x, nightcrawlers on an 8wt. 3 white suckers. Better than fighting dudes up the creek for steel.
